Senators Kirk, Kyl, and Lieberman write letter to Secretaries Clinton and Geithner Regarding Iran Sanctions Enforcement

March 29, 2011

The Honorable Hillary Clinton

Secretary of State
U.S. Department of State
2201 C Street NW 1500
Washington, DC 20520

The Honorable Timothy Geithner
Secretary of the Treasury
Department of the Treasury
Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20220

Dear Secretary Clinton and Secretary Geithner:

We are writing to express our disappointment over today's announcement that the Administration designated only one additional entity for violating U.S. sanctions with regard to Iran. We do not believe this represents full compliance with the sanctions regime put in place by Congress. We are deeply concerned with what appear to be sanctionable activities by other entities involving energy investments in Iran, the provision of refined petroleum products to Iran, financial relationships with Iran, as well as the regime's proliferation activities.

We are attaching a classified annex to this letter detailing our specific concerns over international entities in apparent violation of the Iran Sanctions Act, the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions and Divestment Act (CISADA), or the Iran, North Korea and Syria Nonproliferation Act (INKSNA).

We would welcome a meeting to discuss our concerns further.

Sincerely,

Senator Mark Kirk
Senator Jon Kyl
Senator Joseph L. Lieberman
