Listed by the British government in 2007 as an entity of potential concern for WMD-related procurement and has had export licenses both granted and denied by that government; owner of Ardabil Petrochemical Company (under construction), main shareholder of Petrochemiran Company (poly propylene plants), and invested in Bakhtar Petrochemical Company and in Lavan Petrochemical Company (under construction); consists of 18 production plants and claims to produce a total of 1,500,000 ton per year for domestic and international markets; products include plastics, synthetic rubber and other chemicals; its research and development center includes facilities for gas, gel permeation and differential scanning chromatography, mass spectroscopy, UV-Vis. spectrophotometer and atomic absorption; reported Chairman is Gholamreza Mostajaboldaveh; Managing Director is Mohsen Ghamsary Esfahani, also a board member; reportedly established in 1987; reportedly became a public company in 1999; previously owned by National Petrochemical Company (see separate entity record); as of September 2006, major shareholders reportedly included Bank Melli Iran Investment Co.
