A research institute at Shahid Beheshti University (see separate entity record); research and application of lasers, photonics and plasma in the defense industries and sciences; in its solid-state lasers laboratory, designs and constructs Neodymium-doped Yttrium-Aluminum-Garnet (Nd:YAG) lasers operating at 100 watts; also designs and constructs CO2 lasers (including some operating at 20 and 150 watts); has research groups that work on laser technology, solid-state lasers, plasma physics and engineering, dense matter, and photonics, organic materials, and polymers; dean, Dr. Babak Shokri; research deputy officer, Farzaneh Rahbar; began its activities in about 1993.
