Listed by the British government in 2008 as an entity of potential concern for WMD-related procurement, and has had export licenses both granted and denied by that government; listed by the Japanese government in 2007 as an entity of concern for proliferation relating to nuclear and chemical weapons; intended recipient of components for a petrochemical plant, the procurement of which was denied on March 30, 2007, by a member state of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG); state-owned subsidiary of Iran's Petroleum Ministry; parent company handling policy-making, planning, directing and overseeing the activities of subsidiaries and production complexes operating in the petrochemical and chemical sectors; products include chemicals, fertilizers, polymers, aromatics, fuel and hydrocarbons; markets and exports products through its subsidiary the Petrochemical Commercial Company (PCC); conducts research through Petrochemical Research and Technology Company; operates multiple projects in two special economic zones on the Persian Gulf Coast (Petrochemical Special Economic Zone, or PETZONE, and Pars Special Economic/Energy Zone, or PARSEE).
