Listed (as NIORDC - Esfahan Oil Refining Company) by the British government in 2008 as an entity of potential concern for WMD-related procurement; activities include crude oil refining and product distribution domestically and abroad; also engineers and constructs refineries, pipelines and communication networks; has nine existing refineries in Abadan, Arak, Bandar Abbas, Isfahan, Tabriz, Tehran, Lavan Island, Shiraz and Kermanshah, all of which are expected to undergo expansion projects; new refinery projects are planned for Bandar Abbas, Abadan, Golestan Province, Kermanshah, Tabriz and Shiraz; overseas refinery projects are planned for Malaysia, Indonesia, Syria and Vietnam; reportedly anticipated acquiring more than 34% of Senegal's African Refining Company (SAR); overseen by the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum; part of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC - see separate entity record); has 19 subsidiaries and affiliated companies, including:
