Statement by minister of foreign affairs Katsuya Okada
on the Iranian Nuclear Issue
JAPANESE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
February 8, 2010
1. Japan regrets the commencement of about 20% uranium enrichment activity by Iran, which is a further violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions. Japan is concerned that the development damages the basis of the IAEA proposal regarding the sending of the Iranian low-enriched uranium outside the country for fuel supply of the Tehran Research Reactor.
2. Japan strives for a peaceful and diplomatic resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue, and continues to talk with Iran. It is regretful that this development occurred despite such efforts. Japan strongly urges Iran once again to accept the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions sincerely, to implement the requirements and to take constructive steps.
