According to a U.S. federal indictment, Jamshidnezhad received in Tehran, Iran, an illicit shipment of impregnated alumina sent from the Emirate of Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) in late May 1996 by Henry Joseph Trojack and Abdol Hamid Rashidian, both of whom were convicted in 1998 of conspiring to ship impregnated alumina to Iran; impregnated alumina is a chemical used primarily as a catalyst in the plastics and rubber industry, although it can be used to manufacture phosphorous-oxychloride, an intermediate for organophosphate insecticides and the nerve (chemical warfare) agents VX and GB.
