Responsible for research and development of Iran's ballistic missiles; part of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Added to the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list maintained by the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on July 18, 2017, freezing its assets under U.S. jurisdiction and prohibiting transactions with U.S. parties, pursuant to Executive Order 13382, which targets proliferators of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and their delivery systems; foreign parties facilitating transactions for the entity or otherwise assisting the entity are subject to U.S. sanctions.

Formerly directed by the late Major General Hassan Tehrani Moqaddam, who was involved in the design and production of ballistic missiles, including the anti-ship Persian Gulf missile, and reportedly assisted Hezbollah and Palestinian resistance groups in developing missile capabilities; organization officials reportedly took over Moqaddam's projects after his death in November 2011.

Reportedly develops combat unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
