Press Release on Meeting of P5+1 on Iran Sanctions

The meeting of political director-generals from the foreign ministries of the six countries including China, the United States, Russia, Britain, France and Germany on the Iranian nuclear issue was held in Washington on February 25, 2008. Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei attended the meeting.

He stressed that China insists on properly addressing the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic negotiations. All parties concerned should strengthen diplomatic efforts and with innovative thinking seek a long-term and comprehensive settlement of the issue. The actions of the UN Security Council should be helpful to fulfill these targets.

During the meeting, He Yafei also held bilateral talks with the US Under Secretary of State Nicholas Burns, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Serguei Kisliak, Political Director-general of British foreign ministry Mark Lyall Grant and Political Director of German foreign ministry Volker Stanzel respectively, exchanging opinions with them on the bilateral relations as well as the international and regional issues of common interest.
