QUESTION: Do you have any comment on the first Iranian reactions to the proposals that were presented by Mr. Solana? Mr. Larijani said that there were positive points but also ambiguities that should be removed.

ANSWER: As you know, the European delegation is in Iran. Mr. Solana, who is accompanied by the German, British, French and Russian political directors, met Mr. Larijani in Teheran. They presented him with elements of the proposal having the support of these four countries and also the support of the United States and China. You're familiar with the objective of these elements of the proposal-it's to surmount the present difficulties and permit negotiations to be resumed. According to the information I've been given from Teheran, the meeting with Mr. Larijani lasted a little over two hours and took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere. We are now waiting for the Iranian authorities to respond to these proposals.

QUESTION: Mr. Larijani has already said that there were positive elements but also ambiguities.

ANSWER: Once again, according to what I gathered, and it actually tallies with what Mr. Larijani said, the meeting was long so it allowed us to present our proposals in detail and, as I said, it took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere. That's all I can tell you at this point. Now, we're waiting for the Iranian authorities to respond, and I prefer not to make any further comment.

QUESTION: Is it possible to have more precise details about the content of the package?

ANSWER: We've chosen to be discreet about what the package contains. As I've said before, it's a package intended for the Iranian authorities. So it's for them to examine it, to consider the content and to provide us with a response, but we prefer not to go into more detail about what's being offered.

QUESTION: Can you confirm that there are political conditions, for example, asking the Iranians to help in the peace process in the Middle East and to break with fundamentalist trends?

ANSWER: Quite honestly, I don't see what you're referring to, but I don't wish to go into more detail.
