President Sarkozy and the President of Brazil discussed the Iranian nuclear issue on the sidelines of the European Union-Latin America summit in Madrid.

The Head of State expressed his gratitude and France's full support for President Lula's efforts in this regard.

He told him that France is now waiting for the Iranian letter to be conveyed to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). France will look at it with the Group of Six, and is prepared to discuss it with an open mind, with all the implications it has for the Iranian issue as a whole.

With this stipulation, President Sarkozy considered the transfer of 1,200 kilos of low-enriched uranium outside Iran to be a positive step. Logically, it must be accompanied by a halt to Iran's production of 20% enriched uranium.

The President also noted that the Iranian nuclear problem goes well beyond the issue of the Tehran Research Reactor.
