Tehran, Sept 19, IRNA -- Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said here Sunday that Iran has carried out its commitments within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and has had good cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Aladdin Boroujerdi said resolution by the IAEA Board of Governors cast doubts over the IAEA Secretary General Mohammad Elbaradei "because the resolution was in contrast to the spirit of NPT."
"If the Board of Directors, which is being pressured by the US, continues its policies, then Iran will have no choice but to opt for new policies. Iran will not compromise with anybody on the people`s legitimate rights," he warned. "There is no logic at suggestion that Iran should suspend all its nuclear activities and we are of the belief that we have had effective operation the nuclear watchdog agency.
Iran has pursued confidence building measures while the country`s doors have been open to the IAEA inspectors," Boroujerdi underlined Our contacts with Europe should definitely continue while concurrently, we should pursue our peaceful nuclear program, the MP said.
On the manner of dialogue with the European trio of France, Britain and Germany, he added "we act within the framework of our national interests and our relations with the Europeans is not in the same vain as our relations with the US." However, the Europeans have shown contradictory behavior, he added.
The IAEA Governing Board has accepted the fact that we have respected and abided by all the International norms and regulation and three have been no restriction on the IAEA inspectors performing their task in the country.
The resumption of the uranium enrichment process is on the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission`s Tuesday agenda and if approved, it will be forwarded to the parliament`s open session, Boroujerdi added.
More than 200 lawmakers in a statement here Sunday rejected a resolution passed by the IAEA Board of Governors regarding Iran`s nuclear issue. The statement was read by a member of the Majlis Presiding board, Alireza Zakani, at the Majlis open session here today. According to the document, the lawmakers also regretted the improper response of the Board of Governors to Iran`s goodwill in assuring the international community of Iran`s intent to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes." They also warned the board of governors that if they continue their present policy they cannot expect the Additional Protocol to be ratified," added the statement.
It further said that the illegal resolution makes Iran consider revising its policy towards continuing its obligations within the
framework of the additional protocol and letting the IAEA continue inspections of its nuclear installations. In addition, the lawmakers announced through the statement that they will seriously continue working on the fuel cycle for the nuclear
power station without paying attention to such resolutions.
The statement underlined: "In case the IAEA Board of Governors continues with its current policy, Majlis will make appropriate decisions in response."
