U.N. HQ, New York, Sept 22, IRNA -- No one can deprive Iran of its natural and legitimate right to peaceful use of nuclear technology and demand something beyond the country`s legal commitments, said Iran`s Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi here on Wednesday.

In a meeting with European Union (E.U.) Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana on the sidelines of the 59th U.N. General Assembly session, Kharrazi said Iran is a country which is powerful in the field of nuclear energy and one cannot deal with a powerful country by force and pressure. One can achieve confidence-building strategies through dialogue and collaboration, said Kharrazi. The minister said Iran`s decision to suspend uranium enrichment program has been `a voluntary move` to develop confidence building and one can not expect confidence building measures to be adopted only from one side. He said confidence building is a co-lateral process and both sides should move to build up confidence.

Solana in return commented on Iran`s nuclear dossier and Tehran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), saying that legal aspects of the case and concrete measures would complete the confidence building process. He said Iran must make real effort and show concrete progress on the suspension of uranium enrichment and related activities. He hoped that Iran would take more measures to raise confidence.

The two sides also discussed latest developments in the region. A statement, released by Solana`s office, quoted the E.U. official as stressing in the meeting, "The European Union wishes to see a positive outcome of the nuclear issue with Iran. Iran has until November to convince the international community that its intentions are peaceful."

Solana was further quoted as saying, "During the meeting, I underscored the European Union`s continued commitment to a constructive dialogue with Iran on these and on other matters of importance to our relations and future cooperation."
