The Malaysian Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Chapter in Vienna Hussein Ghulam Haniff said that demands on Iran`s nuclear activities should be based on the frameworks of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its Additional Protocol. Talking to reporters at the end of a meeting with NAM representatives at the IAEA Board of Governors, he said what has been proposed by the European countries in their draft resolution on Iran`s nuclear activities is beyond NPT and its Additional Protocol. The NAM member states are against some paragraphs of the draft resolution and call for change in those paragraphs, he added.

The draft resolution proposed by the European countries was handed over to members of the Board of Governors on Monday. As to some paragraphs not acceptable for the NAM, he said unrestricted access to all nuclear sites and centers in Iran is beyond the Additional Protocol and the Safeguards. "Whatever is mentioned in the Additional Protocol is acceptable to all NAM members and whatever is beyond them would not be accepted by us," he further reiterated.

As to trigger mechanism, Haniff said there is no indirect trigger mechanism mentioned in the draft resolution since any thing has to be based on legal basis. NAM ambassadors to the IAEA Board of Governors held a meeting to discuss the draft resolution proposed by the European countries to the Board of Governors.
