Novovoronezh Center Trains 650 Specialists for Bushehr NPP

The Novovoronezh center of the Russian Rosenergoatom Atomic Energy Concern has trained 650 specialists for the Bushehr nuclear power plant of Iran, a representative of the Atomic Energy of Iran Organization inVoronezh told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

He said about 700 engineers from Iran would be trained in the center before the end of this year.

The entire personnel of the first unit of the Bushehr nuclear power plant will have a theoretical training and receive practical skills in Novovoronezh, he said.

The Iranian specialists will be also train at Russian nuclear power plants, which have VVER 1,000 water cooled water moderated reactors of the kind Russian builders are constructing in Bushehr, he said.

Many Iranian specialists came to Russia together with their families.

The training takes from three months to one year, he said. "Iranian engineers feel at home. Local residents are rather friendly," he said.

Nuclear specialists for other Iranian power plants will be also trained in Novovoronezh, he said.

The Novovoronezh center is the Russian only training facility for personnel of VVER-1,000 reactors.

The center is training specialists from China India and Bulgaria, where Russia has built or is building nuclear power plants.
