Iranian Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani Resigns

Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani has resigned his post, it was announced here on Saturday.

The announcement was made by Government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham at his weekly press briefing.

"Larijani had resigned several times and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad finally accepted his resignation," Elham added.

President Ahmadinejad appointed former head of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Broadcasting Ali Larijani as new SNSC secretary on August 15, 2005.

Ahmadinejad, in a decree, said the appointment was made based on Article 178 of the Constitution and with regards to Larijani's "valuable executive experience and years of membership in the SNSC." Larijani had replaced Hassan Rowhani.
