Lankarani: Security Council Sanctions Result in Radioactive Iode Shortage

August 1, 2007

Iran's minister of health on Wednesday expressed hope that shortage of radioactive iode would be removed in one or two weeks and its supply would be normalized.

The Iranian company importing and supplying the material, Kavoshyar, has been banned from importing the material due to the illegal sanctions imposed on Iran by United Nations Security Council.

Kamran Baqeri Lankarani added that until a few weeks ago, Kavoshyar Company was the sole importer of the material, but now several companies import it.

He noted that local researchers are trying to produce radioactive iode inside Iran, but they have yet to reach final results.
