Weapon Program:
- Nuclear
Iran has taken practical steps to resolve the outstanding issues with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), an Iranian official said on Wednesday.
Under-Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council for International Affairs Javad Vaeedi said that the West pursues its old belief of suspension of uranium enrichment by Iran, but it will not help resolve the dispute.
Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani has invited IAEA inspectors to visit Iran to resolve the technical issues with the specialized agency, preferring the IAEA to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), or "we would better resolve the issue in Vienna instead of New York."
After raising the plan, deputies of Larijani and the European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana held negotiations in this regard, Vaeedi said, adding that at the Lisbon conference Iran and IAEA reached consensus to resolve the remaining issues in 60-day period.
"If westerners have ambiguities over Iran's nuclear program, insistence on old plans can not help resolve differences," he added.
Asked about the impact of the new plan being implemented in absence of the group 5+1, he replied, "We are working with IAEA based on our technical, legal and international commitments."
He added that Iran is keen on continuing negotiations with Solana, the envoy of the group 5+1, along with its cooperation with IAEA.
