The US formal call for talks with Iran on Iraq has been presented to Iranian officials through the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said Sunday.
Hosseini made the remark in response to IRNA at his weekly press conference.
Iran has expressed its readiness to hold talks with the US on Iraq.
"Following consultations between Iranian and Iraqi officials, Tehran has agreed to hold negotiations with Washington to help relieve pains and sufferings of the Iraqi people, support the government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and stabilize security and peace in that country," Hosseini said.
Hosseini added, "Date of the meeting and level of the negotiating team will be determined by end of the current week."
Iran on Sunday said suspension of enrichment would be unacceptable as a precondition for establishment of consortium to produce fuel in Iran.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini made the remark while speaking to domestic and foreign reporters at his weekly press conference.
"The idea of setting up an international consortium inside the Iranian territory has been raised by media. It, however, includes no precondition," he said.
He added, "Iran will accept no precondition. The idea can be discussed, if it causes no illegal limitation for Iran's legal activities."
Iran respects Non-Proliferation Treaty and Safeguards of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
All Iranian nuclear sites are being monitored by the UN nuclear agency.
Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani and the EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana would hold negotiations after conclusion of consultations.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini made the statement on Sunday while addressing reporters at his weekly press conference.
In response to a question on postponement of talks between Larijani and Solana, he said, "The exact date of Larijani-Solana negotiations has not been fixed. It has been said the two sides will hold talks within two weeks. Negotiations will be held after consultations reach an outcome," Hosseini added.
Asked whether Tehran has any plan to prevent adoption of a new resolution by the UN Security Council as the council's Resolution 747 reaches its dead-end, he said, "We have made efforts to prevent adoption of resolution and finalize trend of talks and will do the same in the future."
He once again reiterated that Iran would not accept suspension of uranium enrichment.
"Solana and Group 5+1 (Russia, China, France, Britain and the US plus Germany) are aware of the issue," Hosseini said.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said on Sunday that continued talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Group 5+1 is the only logical solution to put an end to Iran's nuclear standoff.
Speaking to reporters in his weekly press briefing, he said talks etween the two sides would prevent the issue from becoming more complicated.

On recent allegations raised by US President George W. Bush and his Deputy Dick Cheney about Iran's developments, he said their comments indicated to what extent the US administration is confused.
Contradictory comments made by US officials prove that there is no unified decision making process in that country, Hosseini said.
The US seeks to foment crisis, instability and intimidation in the region and the Islamic Republic of Iran is strongly opposed to this policy, he pointed out.
To a question on Iran following up the idea of forming a military alliance with the Persian Gulf states, he said, "We have always underlined the need to broaden security cooperation among regional countries and this could be achieved through signing of a collective security pact."
