1. At the Seventh Japan-Iran Consultation on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Issues held on July 10 (Tue), wide-ranging views were exchanged on current major issues in the fields of disarmament and non-proliferation. These included Iran's nuclear and missile issues, the Review Process of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), various disarmament-related forums, and the Biological and Chemical Weapons Conventions.

2. The Japanese side explained its stance on this Iran's nuclear issue and expressed its strong hope that Iran would resolve this issue by means of international cooperation on the occasion of the visit of an IAEA delegation to Iran from July 11 (Wed). The Iranian side explained different aspects of its peaceful nuclear activities to Japan and expressed the conviction that the issue could be resolved through dialogue and cooperation with the IAEA.

3. As to the Review Process of NPT, both sides welcomed the successful start of the first session of the Preparatory committee. The Iranian side praised Japan's leadership for that success.
