Iranian foreign ministry spokesman, Dr Hamidreza Assefi, said on Saturday that the US has been unsuccessful in achieving its objectives following the resolution adopted by the board of governors of International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) on Iran`s nuclear activities.

The US failed to push through its wholly one-sided resolution, he said, adding that the resolution was opposed by the Non-Aligned Movement member states as well as a number of European countries.

Denouncing the efforts made by the US delegation to IAEA which sought to harm the current relations of the Islamic Republic of Iran with Europe and IAEA, he said the US made extensive efforts to display the efforts and initiatives of the European countries in this context as defective.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has begun constructive cooperation with IAEA, and in the current meeting ` we tried not to return to square one`, he underlined.

The pressures imposed on IAEA have created obstacles for its technical and expert committees in a way that some parts of the resolution are not in conformity with realities in which positive measures of the Islamic Republic of Iran along with some views of the IAEA member states have been ignored.

It is rightfully expected that IAEA, as an expert institution, continue its technical activities away from politicizing the affairs, he said.

Confidence-building is a two-sided issue in the context of which the Islamic Republic of Iran has taken positive strides , he said adding that it is now the turn of IAEA to reciprocate this move and take necessary steps in this regard.

Terming the content of the resolution adopted by the board of governors of IAEA as a mere propaganda, Dr Assefi said: The resolution does not compel us to any new obligation and we are not obliged to take other measures besides the current cooperation.

The Islamic Republic of Iran does not accept any request beyond its commitments in the framework of NPT, safeguard treaty, and voluntary and provisional implementation of protocol to which it is committed, he said.

Criticizing the performance of some countries and the board of governors of IAEA for their failure to adopt a logical, unbiased and expert resolution, he said the Islamic Republic of Iran cannot ignore such manner of dealing with affairs.

The Islamic Republic of Iran appreciates the efforts of Non-Aligned Movement as well as independent countries who pursued a realistic stance in reviewing technical aspects of this issue, he concluded.
