Question: The Six's meeting on Iran will be held in London tomorrow. What issues will be discussed. What will be the position of Russia?

Foreign Minister Lavrov: As for tomorrow's meeting in London on the Iranian nuclear program, we will be guided by the agreements the six countries have reached, agreements on whose basis Javier Solana was and is conducting contacts with the Iranian side. We are, of course, concerned that a satisfactory answer has not been received from Teheran so far. At the same time, we will look what additional possibilities we have to continue our multilateral diplomatic efforts. Undoubtedly, I know that a number of countries of the Six suggest introducing sanctions at once. We have already said that sanctions are a last resort.

We will discuss the entire spectrum of possibilities available to the international community. And we want to retain collective actions on this problem. Of course, it was not helpful towards retaining collective actions, the United States' adoption of its own Iran sanctions law a few days ago, sanctions that apply to all countries that may have some or other forms of cooperation with Iran. Such a unilateral step does not help the elaboration of a collective position. But we shall see what we can do tomorrow in London.
