In this testimony I will discuss the following: the grave threat posed to the United States by Iran’s nuclear program, the current status of Iran’s nuclear program, two examples of how strong sanctions have previously stopped illicit nuclear weapons programs, Iran’s vulnerability to sanctions and the current status of those sanctions, and how S. 970 can contribute to increasing the prospects for preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
