On June 14, 2019 local time, President Xi Jinping met with President Hassan Rouhani of Iran in Bishkek.
Xi Jinping pointed out that during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Qingdao Summit last year, Mr. President and I had in-depth exchange of views on China-Iran relations and regional and international issues of common interest and reached important consensus. The Chinese side always views its relations with Iran from a strategic and long-term perspective. No matter how the international and regional situation may change, the Chinese side is ready to work with the Iranian side to push for the sustained and steady development of China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership.
Xi Jinping stressed that China and Iran should strengthen strategic communication and support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests. We need to strengthen coordination and integration and carry out practical cooperation in a steady manner. We need to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism and combating transnational crimes and jointly combat the "three forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism including the East Turkistan Islamic Movement. The Chinese side supports the maintenance of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear issue and is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the Iranian side within multilateral frameworks including the United Nations and the SCO to jointly safeguard the basic norms governing international relations and multilateralism and safeguard the common interests of developing countries including China and Iran.
Hassan Rouhani said that Iran-china relations are of long-term strategic importance. The Iranian side attaches great importance and is committed to developing relations with China in an all-round way, and is willing to actively participate in jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative and tap into the potential of bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas. The Iranian side firmly opposes the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA, speaks highly of China's positive role in international affairs and is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with the Chinese side.
