Weapon Program:
- Nuclear
- Missile
Q – The President repeated yesterday that the Iranian nuclear agreement should be supplemented by a discussion and a structured agreement on ballistic missiles and Iran’s role in the region. But what does that mean in concrete terms? An agreement in what format? With whom? On what basis? ?
A – As I said yesterday, France is committed to the rigorous implementation of the Vienna Agreement by all parties. It is a robust agreement whose proper enforcement will keep the Iranian nuclear program from being diverted for military purposes. France does not wish to renegotiate or amend it.
With respect to Iran’s ballistic missile program, it is not in compliance with Security Council resolution 2231 and is destabilizing for the region. It is a concern we must deal with, together with our European and American partners, independent from the Vienna Agreement. We hope that discussions on this subject will move forward with Iran, as the President said yesterday.
Actually, we have been engaged in a political dialogue with Iran for several months and it enables us to address this and other subjects in a comprehensive manner, particularly regional issues, in regard to which we have expectations of Iran.
