“Relations with China have always been strategic for Iran,” said President Rouhani on Friday in a meeting with the President of China on the sidelines of the 19th Summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Bishkek.
President Hassan Rouhani stated that Iran has always lived up to its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying, “Pressures that the US administration is putting on Iran, China and other countries are aimed at dominating the entire Asia and the world”.
He described the resistance of Iran and China against the United States’ unilateralism beneficial of Asia and the world, adding, “The Iranian nation have proved that they will not become weak against foreign pressures, but also more united”.
There are many opportunities for development of relations with China, said Rouhani, adding, “Given its exceptional geographical location, Iran is ready to play an important role in the “Belt and Road Initiative”.
“Iran is willing to continue cooperation with China in energy fields and the development of infrastructures for sustainable, strategic relations with China in providing China with energy,” he said.
The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also went on to say, “Tehran is satisfied with the continuation of cooperation and executing joint projects with Beijing in energy, transportation and industry”.
He said, “We are willing to further develop our relations and coordination with China in international and regional organisations”.
Stating that Tehran sees no limitation in deepening relations with Beijing, Dr Rouhani continued, “We are ready to cement ties in political, economic and cultural fields, as well as tourism and fighting terrorism”.
“We welcome China’s investment in projects in our southern regions and ports,” continued the President.
At the same meeting, President Xi Jinping of China said, “Beijing will continue and develop its strategic relations with Iran”.
Stating the unilateralism has become commonplace in today’s world, he emphasised, “The United States’ unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA is the main factor for escalation of tensions in the region”.
We are ready to develop cooperation with Iran in regional and international communities, he said, adding, “Beaning is ready to promote its cooperation with Iran in fighting terrorism and organised crimes”.
The Chinese President also welcomed Iran's cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative.
