On the 29 August, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, will conduct negotiations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif, who will come to Moscow on a work-related visit.
The Russian-Iranian relations, which are based on principles of friendship and consideration of each other’s interests, have started to develop in a new way recently. The intensity of political contacts is growing; positive dynamics in practical areas of interaction is evident.
The Geneva agreements on Iran’s Nuclear Programme (INP) of the 24 November open up real prospects for reaching a long-term and secure settlement of this problem this November. Despite the uneasy negotiation process, we see possibilities for the implementation in full scope of all the undeniable rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran as a member state of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, including its right to enrichment and the removal of the regime of sanctions. We believe that all the participants of the negotiations will show their political will to reach final, mutually acceptable agreements, which will assist in fully restoring the trust of the international community in the exclusively peaceful nature of INP. This could have a favourable impact on the situation in the Middle East region, contributing to the advancement in the creation of weapons of mass destruction free zone there.
