On 22 April 2023, Ukrainian security forces recovered a Shahed-136 uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) in eastern Ukraine. The Shahed-136 is an Iranian-manufactured single-use UAV. Russian forces have deployed these vehicles in large numbers in attacks against civilian infrastructure and in populated areas in Ukraine.

Ten days after its recovery, a Conflict Armament Research field investigation team documented the UAV and discovered the presence of a commonly available DC–DC converter (converting one voltage level of direct current to another). The converter was marked as having been manufactured by a company based in China between 9 and 15 January 2023.
