U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the coauthor of the 2015 Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act (INARA), released the following statement Wednesday amid continuing reports President Trump will not certify Iran’s compliance with the terms of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

On Wednesday, October 4, Representatives David Price (D-NC) and Ted Deutch (D-FL) will send a letter to President Trump signed by more than 180 Members of Congress, including the entire House Democratic Leadership, urging the President to recertify Iran’s compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

At a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee, Secretary of Defense James Mattis was asked about whether Iran is currently in compliance with the Iran nuclear deal. Mattis replied in the affirmative and indicated that the Intelligence Community and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) concur with his assessment.
