Concerning the report from the IAEA director general and his staff, we note that on the basis of information "judged accurate and generally coherent" according to the report, the IAEA describes in detail activities that could attest to a possible military dimension to Iran's nuclear program. The agency describes this as a "serious concern". It notes that Iran has still not suspended its uranium enrichment activities in violation of UN Security Council resolutions and that on the contrary it has made further quantitative and qualitative progress in enrichment.
This information confirms the concerns of the international community regarding Iran's nuclear program by being based on specific concrete elements. As the IAEA director-general states, it is essential that Iran take all necessary measures to restore confidence in the exclusively peaceful purpose of it nuclear program. To do this Mr. ElBaradei enjoins Iran to provide immediately all the information, clarifications and access requested by the Agency and enjoins it to implement the Additional Protocol.
Accordingly, we again call on Iran to answer the demands of the international community as formulated in the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the IAEA Board of Governors and in particular to suspend its sensitive nuclear activities to permit the start of negotiations. Let me remind you that the international community's approach combines dialogue and firmness. The publication of this report gives us the opportunity to re-state this position and to call on Iran again to respond to international demands.
