Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said here on Sunday that dialogue and peace are the keys to Iran's nuclear problem.

Rafsanjani further told Turkey's visiting Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul that tension and intimidation in that case will be detrimental for both the region and the world.

"In an equal and logical atmosphere, being free from any hue and cries, and in light of dialogue and honoring the views of both sides, mutual understanding won't be a far-fetched goal," said Rafsanjani.

While stressing Iran's right for peaceful use of nuclear energy, Rafsanjani said Iran's nuclear achievements are in service of regional development and welfare.

He said Iran wants to access nuclear technology for peaceful and scientific purposes and "basically, we are against military use of the technology by any country".

He said security and tranquility in the region would be possible in light of close cooperation among neighbors. "The Islamic Republic of Iran is fully aware of Turkey's role and efforts for restoration of calm in the region and we hope both countries will strengthen their ties by cooperation."

Gul said in return that Iran's nuclear issue is in a critical stage. "Turkey is seriously calling for settlement of the issue through diplomacy and dialogue."

He suggested, "While retaining its right to nuclear energy, the Islamic Republic of Iran can by sound and timely decisions provide positive results for the region and the world." He said tension and war would not to the interest of regional people.

"Economic growth and welfare are possible in a calm atmosphere and that would be to the interest of the entire region," Gul concluded.
