President-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad focused on the three principles of 'dignity', 'wisdom' and 'expediency' as the pillars of his foreign policy during his election campaign, and he outlined his 'foreign policy' in his first statement after Interior Ministry announced his election as the next president.
Despite internationally-recognized principle of democracy, US and European states have sent mixed signals for the incoming president.
Instantly after election of Ahmadinejad as Iran's 6th president, all foreign countries, led specially by the US and the Europe, tried to provoke the world public opinion against Iran by launching a negative propaganda and raising false allegations.
And the whole thing aimed at only one objective: Weakening Iran's position in the world arena and to tarnish the image of the president-elect before the world public opinion.
Some of these countries even tried to introduce the new 'elected' president as the 'newly-appointed' president by questioning the very authenticity and health of the elections.
Managing director of the London-based Eurosevic research center Pirouz Mojtahedzadeh believes the haste certain countries showed in accusing the president-elect proves their ill intentions towards Iranian nation.
In his first press conference as president-elect, Ahmadinejad stressed he would keep his promises and tried to remove all misunderstandings of foreign countries by offering a clear outline of his future policy on foreign ties and international relations.
Contrary to the biased pre-judgments of certain foreign countries, Ahmadinejad adopted a rational approach towards the two principles of 'confidence-building' and 'policy of detente' in the international relations and stressed the 'just', 'mutual' and 'all-inclusive' basis of Iran's relations with the world countries.
Talking to foreign and domestic reporters, Ahmadinejad said that his foreign policy focused not merely on promoting political ties but on expanding economic and cultural relations with world countries as well.
Saying that Tehran will establish ties with any country which is not hostile to Iran, the president-elect stressed that the ultimate policy of Islamic Republic in its foreign relations was to promote peace, justice and detente in world.
Reviewing the details of the principles introduced by Ahmadinejad on his foreign policy reveals the fact that he is determined to act according to the basic doctrine of the Islamic Republic and continue with the line of action of Iran's previous governments.
He has stressed 'no change' in Iran's foreign policy and said his government will adopt an 'active' foreign policy strategy.
Though the president-elect outlined his foreign policy principles in a clear and eloquent language, some foreign countries are still trying to misportray Ahmadinejad as an 'extremist' and 'fanatic' 'radical' who favors 'changes' in Iran's foreign policy.
The unfounded allegations recently raised by the US and then scattered by some European countries serve to this end.
The allegations that Ahmadinejad had been involved in the hostage-taking of US embassy staff in Iran in 1979 which was widely covered by foreign media and press was one of such attempts.
Since his victory in the presidential run-off elections, Ahmadinejad has repeatedly outlined his views on Iran's future foreign policy by especially giving momentum to 'expanding ties' and 'deepening ties' with foreign countries while attaching priority to 'national interests', 'peace and stability in the region' and 'mutual trust-building'.
Excerpts of his speeches in which the president-elect has touched upon his future foreign policy are as follows:
