Conversations took place with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki. They were dedicated to a continuation of the dialogue that began during the visit of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to Teheran several weeks ago, encompassing our bilateral cooperation in the economic and commercial field, especially with an eye on the upcoming meeting of the intergovernmental commission next month on these questions, as well as, of course, the situation around the Iranian nuclear program.

Russia, as you know, stands exclusively for a peaceful settlement to the questions that arose in this context among the world community. We will firmly abide by the decisions that were worked out in the Security Council. We reaffirm our adherence to collective actions along with our belief that the unilateral acts now being undertaken in the form of trade-and-economic sanctions against Iran are surely unhelpful to the continuation of collective efforts, although we, I repeat it, adhere to the accords on collective work.

We encouraged further, and desirably - more active work by the Iranian leadership with the IAEA in clarifying all the questions that the Agency has about Iran's previous nuclear program. We underscored the importance of closing these questions as soon as possible in order to restore trust in the solely peaceful character of Iran's activities in the field of the utilization of nuclear energy.

I consider that this contact was very useful. It has borne out the importance of developing a frank dialogue in a consistent and ongoing manner, without shirking any of the complex issues, which the Iranian nuclear program undoubtedly is. I feel that by such actions we will help to find a just solution based on the decisions earlier taken in the IAEA and in the UN Security Council. We will continue this dialogue and will do it in contact with our European partners, China and the US as participants of the six-sided process on solving the questions relating to the Iranian nuclear program.
