The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, will be paying an official visit to Iran on May 31- June 1 to review issues of common interests between Iran and the OIC particularly regarding the implementation of the ten-year program of action adopted by Mekkah Summit and the agenda for the forthcoming meeting of OIC foreign ministers which will be held on June 19-21 at Baku, Azerbaijan.
He will also discuss with the Iranian officials a possible role for the OIC in defusing the current nuclear row.
The OIC favors a diplomatic solution in the controversy regarding Iran's nuclear program and Professor Ihsanoglu is expected during his visit to Tehran to explore this possibility. The OIC stands firm in its support for every country's inalienable right to use nuclear power for peaceful purposes, that there should be no double standards with regards to peaceful uses of nuclear technology and that the region should be free of nuclear weapons. It is also against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the world.
