Created in July 1999 when China Aerospace Corporation was divided into China Aerospace Science & Technology Corporation (CASC) and China Aerospace Machinery & Electronics Corporation (CAMEC); listed by the Japanese government as an entity of concern for missile proliferation; sanctioned by the U.S. in August 1993 (as China Aerospace Corporation) for missile proliferation activities; under the direct control of the State Council.
In June 1995, transferred possibly hundreds of missile guidance systems and computerized machine tools for the production of ballistic missiles to Iran.
General design and production of launch vehicles, design and research of control systems, propulsion systems, computers and inertial guidance systems, ground facilities, aerodynamics study and materials processing; development of China's nuclear missiles; development of submarine-based strategic nuclear missiles, surface-to-surface tactical missiles, air defense missiles, and cruise missiles.
