On June 13, 1997, Sanford Groetzinger, president of and corporate counsel of Summit Marketing, Inc., pleaded guilty in United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts to the export of numerous civilian and military aircraft components to Iran via Germany and France, without having obtained the required export licenses from the Departments of State and Commerce.

U.N.-EU Sanctions Tally

United Nations and European Union sanctions targeting Iran's military and missile programs remain in place until 2020 and 2023, respectively. The sanctions target firms and individuals involved in these programs, including entities connected to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC). Over 200 entities are listed by the EU and subject to financial restrictions and travel prohibitions (in the case of individuals). A smaller number – less than 100 – remain designated by the United Nations.
