Iran successfully launched the Fajr satellite into space aboard the Safir rocket on February 2. The Fajr satellite, which weighs 52 kg, was sent to a 250 to 450 kilometer orbit. It is the fourth Iranian-built satellite successfully launched into orbit; the previous three launches occurred between 2009 and 2012. According to Director of space projects at Iran Electronics Industries (IEI) Mehdi Sarvi, the Fajr satellite has no military purpose.
